Dear readers,
This month, as part of the process in getting to know my new institution and writing community, the blogroll features publishing outlets affiliated with Pacific and its community. Note that each of these target’s a very disparate group of writers—there is a little something for everyone.
International Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (IJURCA)
Targeting undergraduate students from a consortium of 14 institutions, this journal accepts research articles, fiction, poetry, photography, videos, and other creative works on a rolling basis from all academic disciplines. While submissions must include a recommending letter from a faculty sponsor, the journal makes good on its call for breadth and rigor. A recent special issue included a collection of essays on the intersection of geography and sustainability.
Pacific university press
In an age when most university presses are shutting their doors, Pacific University started a press in 2015 to respond to this changing climate. As a hybrid, open-access publisher with three imprints, the aims of the press mirror those we have for Boxer students: excellence in scholarship, diversity of thought, and the pursuit of just and sustainable communities. Areas of emphasis include: liberal arts and sciences, health professions, education, business, and literature. In fact, the first publication was a collection of craft essays by members of the MFA in Creative Writing faculty.
Silk Road Review: A Literary Crossroads
This nationally-recognized literary journal is significant in two ways: it is a teaching journal, produced by graduate and undergraduate creative writing students; and it is an important voice in terms of diversity, migration, immigration, and diaspora concerns. Its strengths lie in its poetry, fiction, and translation selections. Occasional essays of varying stripes and author interviews are featured. This fall, the journal has begun publishing one-act plays, for which I am the new senior genre editor. With two print issue and two web issues annually, alongside a blog, check Submittable for our most recent call for work.
Happy reading!
Elizabeth
